Bangs Don't Cause Lazy Eye!
I was always after my daughter to get the bangs out of her eyes because she would harm her vision and get a lazy eye. Vancouver optometrists at Lynn Valley Optometry set me straight though. They assured me that bangs won’t cause a lazy eye. When my daughter was there for her regular eye exam, they told me that it is a myth. Bangs would not be the cause of a lazy eye unless the eyes were so covered that the child couldn’t use their eyes at all and they would need to be covered constantly.
Amblyopia is the correct term for lazy eye in Vancouver . It is a problem where an eye fails to get normal “sharpness”. There are three common types, the first is deprivation – where the brain relies on the “good” eye and blocks out the blurred vision from the lazy eye. Refractive – where one eye has uncorrected vision problems or astigmatism and the other eye does not. Strabismic is the most common and this is where the brain ignores the lazy eye to avoid double vision.
So if your little darling wants to be a Justin Bieber lookalike or have Nicole Richie's side bangs, it is nothing to worry about.
